Mint Choc Chip

It's strange where inspiration hits. I've seen lots of bloggers talking lately about how great the blogosphere is for getting those stylish juices flowing, perhaps tempting us towards styles and combinations we would never otherwise have tried. Kristabel did a great post on this not so long ago.

I for one am another thankful advocate of the blogging world as inspiration. I don't really use lookbook or similar sites, but for me there's nothing better than browsing through some lovely posts and seeing some new and wonderful ways of wearing things.

Less inspiring, more tiring

Sometimes though, inspiration strikes in the weirdest of places, and as much as I'm influenced by bloggers styles, I have to confess that there are plenty of mundane things in everyday life that entice me to try out new things too. Maybe I'll see some unusual colours put together in next door's garden, or perhaps a couple's contrasting prints look incredible together. Or maybe, just maybe, I'm really craving ice-cream.

Mint laced, chocolate chipped ice cream. My. Favourite. And something I've been longing for ever since the sun showed its cheeky little face [only to go off and hide again. God love British weather]. In the absence of said treat, I seemed to unconsciously pair greens and browns. I found out my turquoise rings and slipped on my slouchy brown jumper and shorts. Brown boots, spotty tights, and we're done.

But not quite. I wanted something more permanent, something that would really do justice to this delicious colour combination, and so I decided, after moaning about how much of a faff it was on twitter, to give marble nails a go. I made myself a little nail station on the lounge floor, whacked The Social Network in and gave my nails a right old pamper.

Putting the film on probably wasn't such a good idea, mainly as I kept getting distracted by Andrew Garfield, but still, the nails turned out alright and for a few days I had my fill of mint-choc chipness.

Why am I holding a toffee you ask? Well...
  1. I couldn't find the nail varnishes at this point
  2. It was a mint toffee...uh huh.
  3. My hands look like awkward old-lady claws without a prop. I think they get camera shy.
And now? Well, the nail varnish has long gone, and my ode to mint choc chip has disappeared. But I do have a box of iceland's crispy-mint chocolate lollies to keep me satisfied.

For now :)

edit: For those who wanted to know how to do marble nails, here's the tutorial I used. Sorry! I'm such a forgetful bean sometimes.
