COFFEE AND LACE

Monday saw the arrival of my mum's birthday, and as she's unquestionably young and trendy [hi mum] we figured it would be apt to head into Brum and check out their latest exhibition on rock music and the Midlands' influence upon it.

Turns out that the exhibition came and went quicker than you can say Ozzy, but rather than head back home we decided to wander round their Lost in Lace exhibition instead.

What was originally just a way of avoiding a wasted train fare turned into a wonderful hour or two, meandering in and out of installations, crocheted arches and ultraviolet rooms. All to the accompaniment of my camera shutter which basically sounded constantly- I couldn't help myself!

The exhibition is small but definitely worth a visit, it was completely unintimidating and felt interactive, what with all of its lace walls, suspended pieces, and, my particular favourite, a wall of square pillows; inflated and deflated periodically to create a weird and wonderful billowing wall.

It was a great, inexpensive way to spend a special day away from home, and you can rest assured that amongst all of this cultural sophistication there were coffee and  wine-stops along the way, all topped off with a celebratory pizza and, naturally, cake.

After all, when you do reach your umpteenth 21st birthday it's definitely worth celebrating properly.

You can find out more about the exhibition, it's origins and it's running time here. Admission was free.

I went there the other day! I know a fair few people who helped put the exhibition together so it's awesome that it's getting the recognition it deserves! Lovely pics :D

The pictures are beautiful Danni, really beautiful, and I might never have thought of going to a lace exhibition, but I sure as hell would now.

Hope it was a great day, wish my mum and I were compatible with days like this...
