Lighten up!

I don't know about anyone else, but I become the epitome of failure when it comes to being healthy and active. Yes I enjoy a nice summer salad, and an apple a day is certainly proving to repel any need for doctoral assistance, but plop a Double Decker in front of me at any time of day and I'll snatch it from your gaze quicker than you can say calorific.

Exercise is also a problem. Well, actually, I am the problem - all arms and legs, with no hand-eye co-ordination, and the stamina of a sloth. Yeah, picture that at the gym.

So when the latest Aussie challenge offered us the chance to achieve either a lighter self or a lighter style, I turned the tables and decided it was about time to de-stress, health-up and exercise away. A few weeks into the challenge, and having seen the likes of Laura and Hayley donning their fun wigs, I'm beginning to pine after a lighter style. But I'm sticking to my guns and have been trying to become lighter - in all senses of the word.

I've been attempting new recipes, getting plenty of fresh air, and most importantly, have tried my utmost to keep organised and on top of everything - for me its the only way I can feel de-stressed and deserving of that late night Easter egg smoothie.

Admittedly, the exercise and healthy eating took a bit of a back-seat whilst essays were being frantically written and finished, but I've jumped back on the bandwagon now full of determination [and sushi] and have had a massive shopping trip today with plenty of fresh ingredients. If I can gain just one thing from this lusciously light adventure it will be to get nicer skin for the summer, and that my friends follows a path full of apples, couscous and leafy greens :)

Here's my pictorial attempt at capturing my journey towards being lusciously light, have a gander while I go and eat some home-made tapas with le housemates. Sure, it'll no doubt be followed by cake-a-plenty, but I reckon balance is the key...right?!

and just because a little bit of what you fancy does you good...

Poor rabbit.

Looks yummy, everything on there. I reckon this is the hardest time of year to try healthy, because the double decker is just so much more satisfying when crying into the revision.... MY key has been to rediscover a love of swimming. I'm trying to go at least 5 times a week, because once I've been, I always feel better about sitting down at my desk and able to concentrate better. Good luck.

I also need to lose weight and be healthier - but it's so damn hard!
Try swapping tea or coffee for boiling water with a hint of lemon juice - doesn't taste too good but is meant to do you some good! i have to resist adding sugar to sweeten the taste, haha:)

I agree with Chloe that everything in your pics look scrummy, especially the chicken salad! Yum xx

I'm trying to be healthy as well, which for me means not snacking. Usually I fill my 10.30/ 11.00/ 12.00 slump with a sugary cereal bar or a packet of fruit pastels, but I stopped my cravings with crushed flaxseeds on my cereal every morning. I don't get hungry till about lunchtime....they're my new favourite thing!!

Lovely post! I've just eaten an entire pizza so this makes me feel bad/inspired to start again! Keep going, I feel so much better when I'm eating healthily too :) Having said that, moderation is definitely the key - and the bunny is funny!

These are like, expert food photographs! That sushi looks incredible! it's funny, sushi is the *only* food that can talk me out of a potential junk food binge. I just love it!

Wow that food looks immense. Yummy. I eat quite healthy tbh, so I am quite proud of myself in that sense, I don't really like chocolate or sweet things, probs a bonus xxx

I'm not so bad at the exercise part since I do tae kwon-do for a couple of hours every week, but I am shockingly bad at the healthy eating. :| It's even harder to eat healthily when you're a fussy eater. I'm just trying not to snack all the time on junk right now. :)

OK, lets swap. I'll send you wigs and you can come and make all this food for me, deal?

Looks. So. Delicious.
I try to be healthy but it really doesn't work, it's just so hard to resist sugary salty goodness.
And aww, haha poor rabbit :)x

This post has actually inspired me to become healthier - I am such a sloth. I'm already pretty good with the food but just need to get out more and be more active. The food you cooked looks gorgeous as ever. Poor rabbit, ha! x

Instead of making me wish I were healthy you have given me an immense craving for a double decker. Pretty sure you did that on purpose.

Mmmmmm. Those photos look amazing. It's brilliant when you can find healthy food that is also lip-smackingly delicious.

Your food looks absolutely delish! Just goes to show with a bit of thought, healthy food can look (almost!) as good as a chocolate bunny!

Haha that bottom picture actually made me laugh out loud, YOU CRUEL PERSON YOU! It's a good incentive if you see the benefits other people on the same track are gaining, and as long as you feel happy and healthy and active then sod the aesthetics, it's the inside that counts! ♥ Claire @ Jazzpad

Such an adorable post! I haven't been very good with keeping up with the luciously light stuff but I've attempted to try and eat a bit healthier too...sometimes I can resist a bit of unhealthiness either! Bah!

Luckily all my food intollerances make healthy eating a tad bit easier because I simply can't eat a lot of junk. But I have a serious sweet tooth for baking and lollies which must be filled each and every day, so sadly, healthy eating isn't much of a goer in my life :(

I do exercise though, I'd be the size of a house if I didn't, hehe.
