Do me a favour.

I'm rather excited to announce on behalf of Harriet and Charlotte of Yayer, that their online store has been shortlisted in Reveal Magazine's "Click to buy" Awards.

As some of you might know, I've been in fairly close contact with these ladies after winning their blogging competition, so it's with genuine excitement and tension that I'm writing this - I'm willing them to get wider recognition as I've seen and heard how hard they've been working.

And why?

Because honestly, these girls are just so darn nice.
I know, I know, I'd say "nice" was pretty much the ultimate sin where English GCSE was concerned, but I'd like to unashamedly re-embrace it here as the perfect way to sum up the team behind this brand.

Of course, the clothes are wonderful [Ok, more than wonderful. I may or may not dream about them. That's embarrassing. Let's move on], but I doubt that what started up as a fairly small brand would have achieved half the success they're experiencing now were it not for the generous and understanding persona behind the screen.

So, if you fancy showing your support for these lovely ladies who are up against some huge brands [ebay, pret-a-portobello, beyond retro] then please follow this link and select yayer.co.uk in the vintage category.

Reveal are also offering £200 goody bags for five lucky voters to win, just as long as you register your details at the end.

And just as a thank you for doing me a personal favour in supporting these girlies, I'll give everyone that votes an extra entry into the giveaway I'm hosting next week. Just put ''giveaway'' at the end of your comment if you vote and register your details and I'll make sure to count an extra entry from you!

Ta very much chucks.

The tops featured in these pics were both from Yayer. Blogger decided to put a "will ruin all layouts" clause on their caption tool today, and as my patience with it is already running thin, I gave up on trying. Not the most inspirational action to take, but I was tired. And getting Starbucks cravings. I know you'll understand, you're nice like that :)

[insert inaudible noise of excitement here]

This is what I looked like today for a trip into....wait for it....Asda. I know, I know, I really need to tone down this rock 'n' roll lifestyle of mine.

Although, if I'm being honest, this is more what I looked like for said supermarket rave-up...

Firstly, the Eskimo coat because, frankly, those freezers are COLD. And secondly, that cheesy beam of a smile because, well, I've had some lovely news from Yayer.

If you've read the blog before you might remember a little post I did in aid of their competition, and I found out this morning that I'd won! After reading and re-reading Frassy's tweet, I made a quick scramble for the door [and by scramble I mean tripping over this darn wheely computer chair and scratching hand on the door handle. Smooth] and told mama all about it.

Cue inaudible screams of yay! and WOO, as well as us both jumping around the hallway like loons.

No, really. It can only have looked like we were kids at a birthday party, having had too far too many blue smarties and not realising we were missing a bouncy castle.

Anyways, I just wanted to say a massive thank you to Yayer and Frassy for organising the competition in the first place and picking through the entries, and to the other four finalists who have all been real sweethearts and who, if I'm honest, I truly never thought I'd stand a chance against- their blogs and competition entries are all fantastic.

So yes, normalcy resumed and we went for a quick zoom around Asda with me grinning like a complete numpty and not really caring if we actually got the stuff on the list or not. But we did, and i'm now well stocked for a few Fat Fridays :)

What a complete shambles of a post. Although, pretty reflective of the crazy excitedness going on in my brain at the moment. I'll continue in this random, all-over-the-place spirit [as if i don't act like this daily] by now asking if anyone can recommend a nail varnish for me.

Again, really. I bought this necklace t'other day and really want a nice nail varnish in a similar colour..sort of a green/yellow hybrid. Mmm...sounds like it might have the tendency to look like some ill-fated disease, so yeah, if anyone can point me in the right [i.e. non-bogey coloured] direction then please feel free.

OVER AND OUT.

21 March 2011

Yay![er]

Today, I'm going to be brave.

I'm going to ignore my insecurities and just go for it.

I'm going to enter a competition.

After days of lingering, wondering and pining over Yayer's latest comp, I've finally decided to just bite the bullet and have a stab at it [wow, morbid much?!]. Having found the competition on Julia's blog, through one of my endless trails through the blogosphere, I have to admit that Yayer was not a brand I was familiar with.

Had I visited their site before? Nope.

Had I heard of the brand? No.

Did I go and visit them anyway? Hell yes I did. And honestly? I was impressed.

As pompous as it may sound, I never really have high expectations of unfamiliar brands. Not as a result of an overwhelming self-assurance in brand knowledge, far from it. I suppose I just rely way too much on the high street, making me a little reluctant to branch out and see what else is on offer.

Well my friends, I've well and truly learnt my lesson. It turns out you can find your perfect shop online, and anyone who knows my style need only flick to Yayer's homepage to see that it's everything i yearn for.

If only the student budget would allow.

Everything on this site screams festival to me, from play-suits to tribal scarves, shirt dresses to bum-bags [oh how I miss the '90's] and the models' smooth nonchalance only adds to the glasto-vibe.

Effortlessly beautiful with my ombre'd hair, crazy-print top and leather look leggings? Yup... and what?

I love it. The whole lookbook is fab to be honest, all graffitied walls and graphic prints, but it's the vintage section of their website that really drew me in. With plenty to choose from I was a bit stumped when it came to deciding on my favourite item - you can go from granny-chic shirt dresses...

...to polka dot playsuits in just a click.

And that hat. Oh my. If only I could carry them off [I have ear issues. Let's not go there].

With so many prints and patterns to choose from, it seemed kind of overwhelming to decide on just one piece as my favourite. I mean, you're talking to a girl who spends half an hour deciding between a Twirl and a Picnic, so making my mind up was no mean feat. Nevertheless, I finally settled on something from their vintage knitwear section...

I know it's getting a little warmer now, and the days are officially getting longer [thank goodness] but I'm a bit of a knitwear obsessive. And a generally cold person at that. Hence why I'm always drawn to these super-chunky thick-knit jumpers, and I love how they've styled it here with simple cut offs and a crop top. I doubt I'd brave the latter, but I'd definitely wear it similarly. Throw in some chunky worker boots and a pair of Ray-Bans [I wish] and I'm there.

So there you go, a brief but hopefully tempting introduction to Yayer. Or maybe I'm just really late on the uptake and you all already know how great it is. Either way, you can rest assured I'll be spending my evenings browsing through their site, and keeping my fingers crossed for their competition! Remember to go and check out their facebook page and twitter too, and enter the comp here if you fancy : )

It seems that internet window-shopping isn't all that bad after all. Yayer indeed!
